STADIUM POP & COMEDY CONCERTS

Brief:

To produce all safety, production and site infrastructure elements for two stadium concerts to be attended by 15,000 seated audiences each night

Ashton Gate Stadium, Bristol, UK

Objectives:

To production manage two concerts featuring legendary Irish pop band Westlife and one of the UK's top comedians Bill Bailey.

TAO Productions undertook:

• Supply of security, safety, medical and fire safety personnel for the production and artists areas.
• Design and manage the pitch covering and seating for 7,000 members of the audience to be seated on the playing surfaces.
• Liaise with the Bristol Safety Advisory Group with regard to health & safety, emergency planning, and operation of the event.
• Manage all fire safety matters with regard to the pyrotechnic performance by Westlife including the supply of fire marshals.
• Liaise with and manage all artists requirements for Bill Bailey and Westlife including accommodation, riders, catering and security.
• Manage safety, construction and CDM requirements of temporary structural installation including a 25 mtr stage erected using an 80 tonne crane.
• Manage all aspects of the live event including support artists, headline artists and production.
• Supply crew including production and event personnel, lighting director, local crew, stage manager, riggers, production paramedics, close protection security personnel for artists, logistics manager, traffic management personnel for production and production safety & fire personnel

"When a large black curtain was ripped down by stage hands, Westlife appeared on the stage in front of the Atyeo Stand to rapturous applause, launching straight into Where We Are, the title track from their latest album.
Pyrotechnics were fired into the air, and returned two songs later for When You're Looking Like That, when the band members could first show off their dance moves. These dance moves returned for Uptown Girl, a cover of the Billy Joel classic which Westlife released as a charity single for Comic Relief in 2001. Swear It Again was sung acapella, before they touchingly dedicated Mandy to a Mandy in the audience. "
