CHARITY OUTDOOR CONCERT

Brief:

To produce and manage a festival style concert for The Children's Society Charity featuring Iggy Pop & The Stooges the charities ambassador.

Venue:

Harewood House, Leeds UK

Event Date:

August 2007

Objectives:

To create a safe and successful event that will benefit the support for the children's charity and to make the event where possible self financing. To production manage and event manage the event for a 12,000 licensed capacity pop concert and then to change the production and arena set up for a major classical concert the following night

TAO Productions undertook:

• Computer Aided Design of the venue with full plans produced as required for operational and emergency planning duties as required by the Leeds City Council Licensing Authority.
• Full safety, operational, traffic, security, medical and emergency planning documentation for the event supplying a medical manager, safety manager, welfare officer and fire safety manager for the event.
• Procure, Specify and Manage all production elements for the event and show including sound systems, stealth screens, projection screens, intelligent/generic lighting and stage set.
• Procure , Instruct and Manage Medical, Security, Traffic Management and Policing services.
• Produce specific risk assessments, method statements and operational instructions for the planned stage invasion during the Iggy Pop performance (this documentation is now used at the Cabinet Planning College as guide material on lectures)
• Procure, design and build the full site including welfare areas, entry and emergency exit points, toilets, tentage, caterers , bars etc
• Managing staging and supply stage manager and crew for the multi-artist show.
• Build VIP area for guests and for aftershow party featuring guest DJ, Peaches Geldof.
• Build backstage area including production area, dressing rooms, green rooms, crew areas and catering areas.
• Supply crew including event management, production and event personnel, riggers, managers and electricians.

Event Reviews and Testimonials':

We came across Andy & his crew this year when we put on a show called Rock the House at Harewood House for our client The Childrens Society, this concert was headlined by Iggy Pop & The Stooges.

We were advised to use Andy to produce the show, which he did supplying all production elements together with site infrastructure; we then used his expertise to provide all event management elements and paperwork for the Licensing Committee in Leeds.

Following an appearance by Iggy Pop at Glastonbury it became apparent that this show was likely to end up in a stage invasion by Iggy's fans; Andy produced risk assessments, personnel, method statements and the management of this occurrence and was personally in the pit and on the stage to manage the 3-400 people that came over the front of stage barriers and onto the stage. The whole thing was dealt with professionally and safely.

Andy's professionalism, hard work and experience helped us at New Substance to produce a successful concert for one of the countries leading children's charities.
